ChatGPT stands for Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer.  It’s an AI chatbot that generates human-like responses to natural language input.

Here’s three ways we used ChatGPT.

  1. We asked ChatGPT to write a brief biography of Jimmy LaRose
  2. We asked ChatGPT to design a new logo for a Jimmy LaRose project
  3. We asked ChatGPT to research a topic for a Jimmy LaRose presentation

It took all of one minute to install ChatGPT on an iPad and moments to ask it a question.

We asked ChatGPT to write a brief biography of Jimmy LaRose

Here’s the query, “Please write a biographical summary of Jimmy LaRose.” Within moments the paragraphs below were presented. Before you review, it’s our opinion that the choices made and prose presented by ChatGPT were very well done.

ChatGPT's take on Jimmy LaRose - Nonprofit AI Synopsis and ProseJimmy LaRose is a prominent figure in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors, known for his innovative approaches to nonprofit management. Born in 1967 in Kingston, New York, LaRose has built a career as a philanthropist, author, and speaker, focusing on reimagining how charities and nonprofits operate.

LaRose founded **Development Systems International (DSI)** and co-founded the **National Association of Nonprofit Organizations & Executives (NANOE)**. Through these organizations, he has promoted tools and models like **Major Gifts Ramp-Up** to help nonprofits secure funding by focusing on donors and volunteers as key stakeholders rather than just those receiving services. He has also been an outspoken critic of traditional nonprofit board structures, arguing that incentivizing board members financially could improve organizational effectiveness, a stance that has sparked controversy in the sector.

His book, *Re-Imagining Philanthropy*, argues that charities should prioritize their relationships with donors and advocates over service recipients to create more sustainable funding models. LaRose has expanded his influence through various media outlets and platforms, including **Inside Charity**, where he discusses issues affecting the nonprofit world. His leadership in philanthropy also includes promoting **National Giving Month** every December to encourage generosity.

LaRose’s work is both celebrated and controversial, particularly for challenging established norms in nonprofit governance. He remains a key figure in discussions about the future of charitable organizations in the U.S. today.

We asked ChatGPT to design a new logo for a Jimmy LaRose project

The James P. LaRose Companies have produced thousands of hours of nonprofit management video content and is launching a division to distribute these resources to advance the work of Major Gifts Ramp-Up and NANOE. Furthermore, Jimmy’s thirty-five years of service has been characterized by branding excellence. With that in mind, I asked ChatGPT the following question:

Can you create a logo for a production company that creates movies, television and video content? The name of the corporation is “Knock it Out Of The Park Productions” and should contain a baseball player and bat. The acronym for this entity is KIOOTP and the website address is www.KIOOTP.com.

Thirty-five seconds later ChatGPT generated this artwork:

Again, better than a kick in the head. We were impressed!

We asked ChatGPT to research a topic for a Jimmy LaRose presentation

Jimmy’s live speaking tours have reached nearly 19,000 audience members. In preparation for an upcoming Major Gifts Ramp-Up Event we asked ChatGPT the following question:

Can you research the fundraising model named Major Gifts Ramp-Up?

Here’s what ChatGPT presented:

The Major Gifts Ramp-Up (MGRU) model is a comprehensive fundraising strategy designed to help nonprofits significantly increase their revenue by securing large donations from major donors. It is particularly aimed at organizations looking to revitalize or expand their fundraising efforts. The model emphasizes building long-term relationships with donors and utilizes modern communication and data-mining technologies to optimize donor engagement.

The core principles of MGRU focus on treating donors as the nonprofit’s primary clients and reordering traditional fundraising methods to be more effective. It is a scalable model, suitable for organizations of all sizes, from small nonprofits with limited staff to large entities with complex operations. One of the key features of the model is the “Major Gifts Ramp-Up Cloud,” a digital resource platform providing organizations with tools such as manuals, presentations, and training modules to implement the strategy successfully (Major Gifts Ramp-Up)

A standout aspect of the MGRU model is its flexibility and its ability to transform a nonprofit’s culture by focusing on major gifts as a core revenue stream. The model stresses the importance of leadership, with strong executive directors being essential to driving this approach. The MGRU model also highlights the need for a compelling case for support, a clear long-term plan, and strategic board involvement (InsideCharity.org).

This approach is often seen as a game-changer for nonprofits, allowing them to grow their donor base, build financial resilience, and generate sustainable income through high-value contributions.

The good news is that ChatGPT accurately represented the Major Gifts Ramp-Up Model. However, it did not do the deep dive we would have preferred.
